Mathias Friis-Hansen

My education: Royal Danish Conservatory, 2002. Royal College of Music, London 2003.

My favorite musical composition: Bartok: Strings, Percussion, Celeste and Stravinsky: Le Sacre du Printemps are both at the top of my list.

My greatest musical experience:  I am lucky to have so many that it hard to choose! One of them has to be playing with Claudio Abbado and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.

My most memorable/funny/unusual experience in the Kapel: Even though I was not actually a member of the orchestra yet I got to play at the opening of the new Opera House in 2005. There was so much excitement and euphoria in the air that night, I will never forget it.

When I’m not playing in the Kapel: I play a lot of chamber music with, among others, the PACE Percussion Trio, of which I am a founding member. Outside of that I am very involved in new music and perform as a member of Athens Sinfonietta. I also work closely with Tim Rushton and the Dansk Danseteater, for whom I have composed music to three separate performances.
